My name is Gunta Riske and I am passionate about welcoming guests
Together with my husband, who works as a property manager in the municipality of Gislaved, and our six children, I started running Backa Loge (accommodation, summer cafe and event venue) from November 1, 2020. We come from Latvia, but we have been in Sweden since 2012. The last three years we fell in love with Kalv’s nature: lakes, nature reserves and forests. I love to cook organic and preferably locally produced food from scratch, which I have planned to offer to our amazing guests. In my spare time I like to exercise at home, jog or walk with my dog, take winter/cold baths and wake up at five in the morning.
I enjoy life here and now as it is
I have an engineering degree in information technology. For the last 13 years I have been a home-maker and full-time mother. But now is the right time to move on and start developing myself again and let life take a different direction. Baking, cooking, cleaning and setting the table was my everyday life at home with the children and now it has also become my professional life!
From the age of 14, I had summer work in my parents’ small private business chain, cafe and campsite in Latvia. I loved doing this when I was young. I spent summers doing everything that was needed, I sat in the cash register and was in the warehouse, I got to try bookkeeping, cleaning, serving food and setting the table for large banquets. But mostly spending time with people in the shop and cafe. Mostly I worked with people in the shop and café. The feeling that I have opportunities to do this nowadays in Backa Loge warms my heart. It warms my heart that I now have the opportunity to do roughly the same things here at Backa Loge.
I would like to continue to be just “mother”. But Backa Loge gives me a fantastic opportunity to take another step in my “career”. In other words, do the best that I can not only for my beloved family. But also, for the entire Kalvs village and Backa Loge guests. It’s not about making a lot of money; it’s about doing what you’re passionate about.
If you are wondering, how will I manage everything? Then I can answer that everything works out well if you plan, and I love planning my life. We’ll see. But I am sure of one thing: the children must never be an excuse for not doing what you really enjoy.
